Saoirse's Visit, Part 1: Saoirse's Arrival

Hey everyone! This week we had Friday off, so we had a long weekend! I figured this long weekend would be a good excuse to spend some quality time with friends, so I invited Saoirse and some of her time-traveling buddies over.

Saoirse and her friends had to do a little walking to get to the Midcoast MTTB. Sometimes, the time machines don't drop you off at exactly the right place, and you're left somewhere having to walk to your destination.

Lucky for them, they didn't land too far away.

Before long, they were right where they needed to be.

Saoirse climbed right up onto the porch and waltzed right in.

They came in rather quietly, as nobody heard them at first.

Everyone was chatting quietly or piddling around.

Saoirse came closer and excitedly called out, "Dia duit, Dani!!!"

I turned, surprised to hear her. When someone arrives by time machine, you never know quite when they are actually going to arrive, which is a bit ironic if you ask me.

"SAOIRSE!" I squealed, running to greet her.

I gave Saoirse a big hug. I haven't seen her since this last summer!

Saoirse stepped back and gestured to the two friends she had brought with her. I had heard about them them on her blog, but I had not yet met them in person, so this was our first formal introduction.

"This is Caroline," Saoirse said.
"Pleased to meet you," Caroline said as she dropped into a little curtsy.

"And this is Julie." Saoirse said, rather sourly.
In return, Julie gave a rather sour expression.

After inviting them to take their coats off, I introduced Saoirse to our new girl.
"There she is, over there," I said, motioning towards Deirdre, who has befriended Lilly.

They turned to us and Lilly smiled and waved.
"Hey Saoirse! Nice to see you again!" She exclaimed.

We stepped a bit closer.

Saoirse, this is Deirdre, Deirdre, this...is..." I stopped.

Deirdre stepped closer to Saoirse, her face twisting into a scowl that could make the paint peel off a wall.

For a moment, I was utterly confused. Then, realization hit me. I stared at Deidre, my mouth hanging open.

I turned and stared at Saoirse, mouth still wide open. Could it be? I wondered.

Deirdre was still glowering at Saoirse, but took a step back.

Deirdre gave Saoirse the dirtiest of looks, and glared at her with the utmost hate and resentment.

Saoirse was paler than a ghost, and stared blankly back at Deirdre.

Deirdre lowered her glare and glowered at the ground a moment before taking a few steps back, and running out.

Saoirse stared after her, as did I, dumbfounded. Lilly looked back at us, confused and upset.

We all stood that way for a moment, watching Deirdre run out the door.
"Deirdre, wait!" Lilly said.

Lilly ran after Deirdre, and right out the door.

I turned to the extremely pale Saoirse, unable to comprehend.
"Saoirse, what happened?" I asked, stupefied.
She slowly turned to me, eyes glistening and body shivering.
Not quite meeting my gaze, she barely whispered...
"Deirde, Dani. Deirdre is my cousin."

Kaely's Birthday Party!

Hi there everybody! Today was Kaely's birthday, so naturally, we here at the Midcoast MTTB had to throw her a party!

Here's everyone all gathered around.

Here's the birthday girl!

We had a nice little mid-afternoon lunch with the main course being pizza! there was also carrots, celery, grapes, and drinks.

I bet it's safe to say everyone was pretty hungry. We all devoured our food!

A casual conversation going on here between Stephanie and Kaely.

Laughing Spirit grabs her lemonade and joins in.

Nicki, Lilly and I talking between mouthfuls of yummy pizza and sips of strawberry soda and lemonade.

Deirdre and Emily quietly listen, daintily eating celery and carrots and sip their lemonade.

When everyone was done eating and had had a chance to digest their food, we played pin the tail on the donkey! Stephanie went first. Molly was the "spinner"--it was her job to make sure the person was dizzy and confused! ;)

After stumbling around a bit, Stephanie made it over to the donkey poster, where she groped around before finally sticking the tail to the donkey.

Only, she stuck it to the donkey's nose instead of it's hind end!

After some of the other girls went, it was my turn. Molly spun me around...

...and I tripped my way over to the poster, where I stuck the tail down.

I took off the scarf to see how close I was. I had stuck the tail to the donkey's lower back, but it still wasn't right.

A few turns after me Kaely went. Kaely is actually blind, but she still put on the blindfold to get the "full experience". :) She hasn't always been blind, and had played pin the tail on the donkey before when she still had her sight.

She walked slowly over to the wall where she felt around, and stuck the tail to the donkey.

Nicki led her hand to where the donkey's tail was supposed to go and where she had put the tail to show her how close she was.

Her tail ended up being the closest!

When we were done playing the game, it was time for cake. We all gathered around the table and sang. Kaely made a wish and blew out her candles.

Here's her cake. It was a 3 layer vanilla cake with delicate vanilla icing and blueberries and strawberries. Everyone said it was delicious!

After we had cut the cake and everyone had a slice, I gave Kaely my present. Not everyone gave her presents because this was just a little party, and she would be going back to her house for her "real" party with her family and friends who don't time travel.

She opened up the box and found...

...a knit headband! I decided to use my newly acquired skills to make Kaely a present.

I used soft, squiggly yarn that's warm and cozy, and still looks ok if you mess up. :)

Here she is with it on!

Kaely said she enjoyed her party. Her favorite part was the cake! I had fun, too. ^_^ Do you like going to birthday parties? Do you like having your own? Would you rather throw a birthday party for a friend, or celebrate your own? I think I would probably rather celebrate my own, because then I get to choose the theme, the kind of cake, AND I get presents! :D Happy birthday, Kaely!

New Clothes!

Hello everybody! Last week we had vacation, and Skye taught me how to knit and sew! While I was practicing my new skills, Skye made Lilly and I some clothes.

Skye made this shirt for me from the All Dolled Up pattern "Raven". If you look closely, you can see that the fabric has dogs all over it! I love it!

I think my orange slice earrings match nicely.

Skye made this skirt and shirt, as well as the petticoat under the skirt, using authentic 1952 Simplicity patterns.

Here's a close-up!

I made this skirt! It was pretty simple; I only had to sew a casing for the elastic at the top, and then sew the back closed!

I like how it looks with this yellow shirt!

This skirt is very versatile. I think it looks good for any season! This is how I would wear it in the winter, but probably with some tights or a pair of leggings.

I had a nice, relaxing vacation doing crafts and learning new skills. What do you like to do on your time off? What are some of your hobbies? Can you knit or sew?
