Valentine's Day!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! I hope you all had a day filled with love (or candy, at least)! This year, I really wanted to host a Valentine party, which wasn't very hard, considering I could just have it at the MMTTB (Midcoast Maine Time Traveling Base, in case some of you were still wondering) and invite all my time traveling friends. So, that's precisely what I did!

This is everyone that was there.

I made sure that as the host of the party, my outfit fit the theme. Everyone didn't have to wear Valentine's Day themed clothing, but some people chose to wear red or pink. Stephanie's pants were perfect: they had little hearts all over them!

This is the table that I had set up for the drinks, cookies and valentines.

A close up of some valentines.

A close-up of some more valentines.

And of course, a close-up of the cookies. :)

I found all the valentines addressed to me and sat down to read them.

Here's my pile.

I recognized all these valentines; one from Lilly, one from Nicki, one from Skye, and one from my brother Takao...

...But this one had me puzzled.

It said, "To Dani, from a secret admirer."
I had no clue who it could be from! Maybe someone at school sent it in the mail, and Skye just put it on the table to surprise me.

I looked over at Nicki and showed her the valentine.
"Do you know who it might be from?" I asked. Nicki peered down and read the card.
"Woah, a secret admirer? That's so cute! I don't have a clue who it could be, though. Probably nobody here...but maybe someone's just pulling your leg. Ask around and see if anyone admits to sending it to you." She replied.
I went around to all the girls, but all of them had the same reaction Nicki had, including some teasing from Molly and Stephanie. I guess it just wouldn't be Valentine's Day without some romantic mystery, though!

My party was really fun, and everyone said they had a good time. I'm still really curious about that mysterious valentine. I really have no clue who it is from! Do you have any ideas? Did you get any mysterious valentines? How did your day go?

Skiing!

Since we got so much snow yesterday, Skye thought that going skiing might be fun. So, we gathered our gear and headed out!
We go skiing at a little place called Mountain Valley Ridge, which isn't really a resort. It's just a little "mountain" near our property that gets groomed. Nevertheless, it's a lot of fun!

My skis slid smoothly over the light, powdery snow.

I gained speed as the hill became steeper.

I moved to the other side of the trail...

...And sailed right over a little jump at the end!

I came to a stop at the bottom of the little mountain.

All this new snow made skiing at Mountain Valley Ridge super fun. Have you ever been skiing? Did you like it? What's your favorite kind of skiing? I like alpine skiing, but I think I probably prefer nordic.

SUPER Snow Day!

Hi everyone! It's been crazy around here lately, as a wicked blizzard just passed through. It left drifts of snow taller than I am! It's absolutely insane!

My brother and I went outside to play in it. Here, I'm not even standing on the ground! I've only sunk down until I don't sink anymore. If I dug down a bit more and stood on where I could see grass, the snow would be over my head.

After playing for a while, my brother and I had made paths through the snow so it was easier to walk around. I look like an abominable snowdani!

Here I am next to a snow drift on top of one of our shrubs.

Here's the amount of snow on our driveway! Skye made us help shovel it all, too. :p

Here's another shot so you can see how much there was!

When we were done shoveling, my brother and I decided to build snow caves in a pile of snow.

Here I am climbing into my little cave. Then, we built tunnels to each other's caves so we could crawl between them! That was so much fun. Do you see how this picture is kind of hazy? That's the snow blowing all around! We had strong gusts of wind, and sometimes the snow blew around so much that all you could see was the cloud of white around you.

All of this snow is from one storm! Before this, bare grass was everywhere, and even the really deep drifts were barely there. I have never seen so much snow fall all at once! Tomorrow I think we're probably going to go skiing. Have you gotten any snow? What are your favorite things to do after a snow storm?

Groundhog Day!

Happy Groundhog Day! This morning at 7:28 am EST, Punxsutawney Phil was awakened, and he did not see his shadow. That means that we will have an early spring! I don't find that hard to believe, though; the complete opposite of last week, this week has been warm and wet! All the snow melted, and we got rain! Since it was so warm and sunny, I went outside to play and get a dose of vitamin D.

When I got outside, I noticed there were a ton of sticks and branches in the backyard. It's been really windy these past few days, so that's probably why. I decided to build a fairy house!

I surveyed the yard, and found a suitable place at the base of a large oak tree.

I cleared out the little crevasse so that it was clear of little pieces of leaves and sticks and grass.

I then got to work breaking the sticks to the right lengths for the house.

I placed two sticks in a framework so that I had something to build the house around.

Here's the little scaffold.

Next, I gathered pieces of bark for the roof.

I laid the pieces of bark onto the top of the scaffold like shingles.

I then put more sticks on the outside for walls, and finished off the roof by putting down some leaves.

Once the house was done, I deemed it best to go inside. It was getting chilly, and the sun was going down.
I love going outside! It makes me sad that we don't have snow anymore...it's only February! I'm not quite ready for spring yet! What about you? Are you excited for spring? Do you still have snow?
